Training Camp Series: Part 4 - The Weekend
Share
Weekends are when everything comes together. After a full week of balancing work, training, and recovery, I use this time to sharpen skills, reset the mind, and prepare for what’s ahead. It’s not about switching off completely, but about using the extra space to focus with intention.
Saturday mornings start with my MMA 1-2-1 session. These sessions allow me to slow things down and work on the finer details. My coach and I usually focus on technical gaps that showed up during class or sparring that week. Whether it’s timing, transitions, or movement, these sessions help turn weaknesses into progress points. Small, consistent improvements here often make the biggest difference later on.
In the afternoon, I head to my local boxing club for a class or Muay Thai sparring. It’s another chance to move, learn, and test myself against different styles. The mix of disciplines keeps training fresh and helps build versatility. Each session offers something new to take away, whether that’s refining a jab, improving defense, or simply pushing through fatigue when the body feels heavy from the week.
With year-end approaching, work is busier than usual, so I sometimes go into the office for a few hours at the weekend to get ahead and ease the pressure of the upcoming week.
Sunday is my main rest day and one I rarely compromise on. Taking at least one day off each week is essential for recovery, both physically and mentally. That said, if I’ve already taken a rest day midweek, I’ll usually do a ClassPass fitness session on Sunday. My current go-to is the Versaclimb class at BXR, followed by a shake and some quiet time catching up on work at their juice bar.
The weekend is also when I catch up on general life admin, meal prep, and checking in on the brand. Sköll-Hati is still in its early stages, so I often use this time to write, plan, and create. I also make time for friends and family, whether that’s training together, going for a walk or run, or grabbing food somewhere local.
For recovery, I’ll often make use of the sauna, steam room, or swimming pool at the gym. Occasionally, I’ll head to the local Banya for hot and cold therapy, and book a sports massage to keep everything in check. By the end of the weekend, everything feels aligned again. The body is rested, the mind is clear, and the structure for the next week is already in motion.
